What's Happening in February?

It's almost February, the days are getting longer and the first signs of spring are here!

This month we have two crafty offerings for you, at Craft Club and at our main Monthly Meeting:

Craft Club
February's craft club will be on Tuesday 5th February at Atlantis Books, 5.30-7.30pm. We'll be making gift bags and boxes out of old wrapping paper and cardboard, and also these fab woven hearts, just in time for Valentines. These are traditional Scandinavian decorations called Julehjerter, frequently used on Christmas trees (as the name suggests). They can also be used for gift baskets, and we reckon they'll be great with chocolates in too!

Remember to email lwewicraftclub@gmail.com if you're coming, so we have an idea of numbers. As ever, hot drinks and nice biscuits are included in the price!

Monthly Meeting, Wednesday 20th February
Our monthly meeting on Wednesday 20th (6.30-8.30pm, Upper Vestry Hall, St George's Bloomsbury) may or may not include our AGM.

As well as the AGM (or instead of it) we will focus on bag making for the Red Box Project, which "quietly ensures that no young person misses school because they have their period".

We'll be making drawstring bags for menstrual products to be put in - bring along unwanted material for 10x10cm or 20x20cm bags, thread, needles, fabric scissors and ribbon if you have any going spare, Nicky is also preparing 'bag kits' for us to sew, with all cutting etc already done.

You can also bring along pads or tampons to go into the bags, and the group we are donating to are also in urgent need of black tights & underwear to go in them too. The filled bags are placed in schools, and any girl who needs the products can simply pick one up as required, no questions asked.

And Another Thing...
A quick reminder that Claude will be hosting a panel discussion about mental health and the stigma surrounding it at the Best of You show at Olympia. Her talk is on Friday 15th February (time tbc), the show is also open on the 16th,. More info on the show here: http://thebestyouexpo.com/uk/

January round -up

Welcome to all our members, potential members and visitors who joined us in January.

Craft Club
We started 2019 off with a jewellery making session at Craft Club, where beaded earrings and bracelets were the order of the day.

Head over to our Craft Club blog, http://lwewicraftclub.blogspot.com/ for more info about us!

Monthly Meeting
Our monthly meeting focussed on winter wellness and foraging, with a fascinating talk and sampling session from Kim of Handmade Apothecary, complete with sampling of elderberry tea, and lots of information about what we could easily forage locally. We're all enthused to go out and start sustainably foraging for wild garlic, cleavers, elderflowers and much more besides!

Next meeting, 16th January

Our speakers in January will be the lovely ladies of The Handmade Apothecary.

"First and foremost we are a team of medically trained herbalists who are passionate about sharing the lost, traditional knowledge and uses of herbs with others and the community through running workshops, walks and talks on herbal remedy making, natural beauty and botany. Our aim is to help others to re-establish a bond with nature and use plants and natural ingredients for health, home and self-care." (c) The Handmade Apothecary

They are going to talk about winter wellness, as well as talking about the plants you can forage at other times of the year to see you through winter, and will bring some tasters. They are aslo going to bring some herbs to try.

If you would like to buy their book in advance they will sign them on the night but unfortunately do not have any books to bring with them. You can buy it via independent bookshops through Hive or our Amazon link.
