Review of May

May began with our usual online craft club - we have a small core of dedicated members who meet on Zoom on the 1st Tuesday of the month (or another day if that suits us better...) and all are welcome to join us for this - bring along any craft you're working on and spend an hour crafting and chatting. We put the details on the WhatsApp, or you can email us for the link.

British Museum

On Sunday 15th we attended the community preview of the Feminine Power exhibition at the British Museum, a stunningly presented journey through representations of women in world religions across history.

May Meeting

Our regular meeting was held in the vestry hall of St George's Bloomsbury, and was a fascinating talk by Liz Mooney about her world travels, in particular the volcanoes and volcanic regions she has visited - I think we all want to go travelling now and see some of these fascinating places she talked about!

Our next meeting, on 15 June, will be a crafty evening when we're making wax melts for candle diffusers. We need to know numbers in advance so Antoinette (our tutor for the evening) knows how many kits to bring - drop us an email on londonwestendwi@gmail.com if you want to come along please!

Next meeting - 18 May, Hot Spots of the World

 Next Meeting: 18th May

The Hot Spots of the World.  This is a talk on some of the Volcanoes Liz Mooney has visited on her travels.  Liz is an adventurer who has written about her experiences of traveling as a single woman on her own.  She's been to many places including a trek to Everest base camp.  But for her talk to us she's going to be focusing on volcanoes.  You can read more about her and her adventures here:  https://lizmooney.net

May update

At our April meeting we were delighted to welcome along Jane McLaughlin for a fascinating talk 'Eat Your Greens', the history of domesticated fruit and veg in the UK.

We learned that James Bond's favourite jam was Little Scarlet from Tiptree. Ground elder was brought to the UK by the Romans (they couldn't have bought good wine could they!) But we also learnt it makes good pesto - here's a recipe http://thevicardiedlaughing.blogspot.com/2013/04/ground-elder-pesto.html Lettuce used to be eaten BOILED. And finally tomatoes are love apples. Many thanks to Jane for a most enlightening and entertaining talk!  She has many others too so we'll be inviting her back next year!
